Navin Khanna is a partner of Chitiz Pathak LLP and joined the firm in 2005.

Previously, Navin was a partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, where he practiced in the fields of civil litigation, intellectual property (IP), technology and media and entertainment law for over ten years.

With a special interest in the areas of technology, intellectual property, media and entertainment, Navin provides a broad range of clients with legal services on matters related to licensing, distribution, proprietary rights protection, intellectual property strategy, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, privacy, the Internet, e-commerce and film and television production and distribution.

Navin has extensive civil litigation experience with an emphasis on commercial cases, including proceedings related to contractual disputes, film financing, rights clearances, copyright infringement, shareholder disputes, patent infringement and impeachment, trade-mark oppositions, information technology and confidential information.

He has a degree in electrical engineering with a major in computer engineering, which allows him to provide special insight to clients and businesses involved with electronics, hardware and software technology and services, the Internet, network communications, e-commerce, satellites, mobile electronics, broadcasting and content distribution generally.

After acquiring his B.A.Sc. in electrical engineering at the University of Ottawa, Navin completed his LL.B. at Osgoode Hall Law School and is currently completing his LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law. He was also a part-time student at the Ryerson Polytechnic University Film Studies program. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994.

Prior to commencing his legal career, Navin worked as a design engineer for Motorola in the development of mobile and two-way radio wave propagation analysis systems and for Marconi plc on the development of high-end graphics display systems for military and commercial aircraft avionics.

Navin is a Registered Trade-mark Agent in Canada and a member of the Advocates Society, the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, the Licensing Executives Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Toronto Board of Trade.
